It is 2018, sitting in class, I don't remeber which subject, but it wasn't really catching my attention. My friend Gian Diego, a person crazy for playing cards, while shuffling a deck of cards one handed mentioned. "Wouldn't it be crazy if we created a deck of playing cards and got it featured at one of Chris Ramsays videos?"
I started sketching one immediately. Gian went on and told Marino about this idea. Eventually all designs started to fall together. Marino and Gian turned to a designer called Manuel. He helped with the development and digitalisation of the design.
What feels like an eternity later, the prototypes arrived. I was eager to take the first pictures. We teamed up with @ffotorodri, an up and coming photographer to shoot the pictures above.
For the development of the final product, Gian and Marino contacted Cartamundi. Many hurdles had to be overcome by them in the production process, until finally the cards arrived at my door.
In the following lines I will show you some insides of the project, emphasising on my activity as photographer and consultant!

Working with the signum team was extremely entertaining, one of their objectives was to hide an insane amount of easter eggs in the deck. When testing they challenged me to find them.
The development of the marking system took an fair amount of time as well, the details are so subtle, that you just barely notice them, which was one of the goals, to make a clean deck that could be used in casinos, but also for magic tricks.

At the photoshoots we were always looking for creative solutions. Specifically on this picture we tried to catch a card flying. Obviously you could take two photos and merge them together in photoshop, it would probably have looked cleaner.
But the challenge of snapping the picture in the right milisecond give the picture a special flare, even though it isn't focused perfectly.
I strongly suggest, that if you are a photographer that mostly takes one type of photos, for example portraits or landscapes, you try product photography. It makes you perceive objects different angles and is a fun challenge.
